Dear Rotarians and Rotaractors,

As you know, the ICC International Conference and General Assembly was scheduled to take place in Kiev, Ukraine in April this year.

The past weeks, we have been monitoring the situation both at the health and geopolitical situation around Ukraine. We also conducted a poll among ICC National Coordinators to know the intention regarding coming to Kiev for this event in the current situation.

After taking all these elements into consideration, and after discussing this issue with Ukrainian Host Committee chair, we made the difficult decision to cancel the onsite event.

While this may not be an unexpected decision, it is still a deeply disappointing one — for me, the executive ICC Board and for our friends in Ukraine who have been planning an exceptional event.

I have no doubt that in the future, when the situation will be back to normal, the district 2232 will be in capacity to hold a major Rotary ICC Conference in Kiev.

For the 2022 ICC conference, the organization committee decided to have this conference as a virtual event to be held still on April 2, 2022. Program and other details for participation will follow soon.

For the ICC Executive Council meeting (meeting with all the ICC National Coordinators and the ICC general assembly to elect the chair for 2024-2026) we will be holding a face-to-face meeting by the end of this Rotary year.

Two years ago, when I started to prepare myself for taking on the position of Chairman of the ICC Executive Council, I did not know that our world was going to change so considerably and what would be the outcome of our projects and events during these two years.

The COVID-19 many consequences have reinforced my motivation and my vision for Intercountry committees.

Now more than ever, we must use our ICCs to put into practice Rotary’s message and to reach across borders to promote peace, international understanding, and goodwill.

Also, in these difficult times for the people of Ukraine we should pray and act for peaceful resolution of the current situation. We do hope that security situation will improve there soon, and we will be able to visit Ukraine and meet our Rotary and ICC friends there.

Best Regards,

Cyril NOIRTIN

Rotary ICC Executive Council Chairman 2020/2022
